Expert Offers View of the Future of Newspaper Journalism at Annual
College Press
Awards Luncheon
Rich Jaroslovsky of Bloomberg News, speaking at
the annual college newspaper awards luncheon sponsored by the
New Jersey Press Foundation, said the future of newspaper
journalism rests in how well and how fast the industry fully
embraces online journalism.
Jaroslovsky told 75 college students and faculty
members on April 10 that today's student journalists will be the ones to
shape the future of the industry. He said that is because "you
who are here today understand that readers of the future will
get much of their news from blogs, social networking Web sites
such as Facebook, and other online sources."
He urged the students to help today's publishers
and editors as they seek new ways to compete for the time of the
next generation of readers. Jaroslovsky, who was the founding
president of the Online News Association, compared the current
evolution of newspaper journalism to how radio content changed
as television matured.
