Scholarships for NJ Newspaper CarriersAbout the Isaac Roth Newspaper Carrier ScholarshipThe Roth scholarship is valued at $2,000. One will be awarded in 2009 to a New Jersey youth and adult newspaper carrier or to the child of an adult carrier who enters the competition. The application deadline is April 30, 2009. The competition is announced through the circulation directors at New Jersey Press Association member newspapers. The newspaper's Circulation Director or a District Manager must complete a Route Performance Questionnaire for every carrier or child of a carrier the newspaper nominates. Announcements about the next competition will be E-mailed to NJPA-member newspapers in March and April 2009. Also, application forms may be printed out from this website and mailed to the foundation along with supporting materials. Newspapers are invited to send the foundation Route Performance Questionnaires to nominate as many scholarship candidates as they wish. Only those applications that include a Route Performance Questionnaire will be considered complete. The scholarship is awarded from a trust fund established in 1926 by the estate of Isaac Roth, who was a newspaper carrier for the Newark Daily News (no longer in print). The trust fund was transferred to the New Jersey Press Foundation in 1983.
